You probably already know that one of the best things you can do following a break up is to engage in “no contact”. But what if contact is unavoidable such as when you work at the same office or live in the same house or you meet by chance?
In this video, breakup specialist Brad Browning, author of the Ex Factor Guide program, shares tips on how you can turn unavoidable contact with your ex into a positive thing for you that may even help with getting him back.
What to do when you have to see your ex at work/school?
Here are some tips of how you can handle this situation:
Tip #1: Turn your ex’s expectations upside down
After a breakup, your ex will naturally expect you to be sad or angry even. So imagine what a shock it will be for him if you show up at work looking quite the opposite. You may be feeling all heartbroken inside but learn to hide that from your ex. This is effective because it forces him to second guess his decision about letting go of someone as vibrant, confident and positive as you.
Tip #2: Create mystery by dropping subtle hints
When he is within hearing distance, casually mention to someone you’re talking to that you are already making plans to be out and about with someone tonight or over the weekend. This will make him wonder if you have really moved on that quickly.
Tip #3: Keep it fun
When the chance presents itself for you to talk directly to your ex, avoid the drama or negative conversations. Keep to neutral topics and be as upbeat and light hearted as you can be.

What to do if you still live with your ex?
While it may be impossible to go into no contact with your ex when you’re still living together, you can opt for limited contact. You don’t need to go out of your way to avoid your ex but try to be away from home as much as you can when he is also home. When you can’t help coming into contact with him, avoid showing any negative emotions. Strike a casual conversation but keep it to about two topics max and then make your graceful exit.
What to do when you run into your ex at the gym, grocery, etc.?
Be prepared for those times when you unexpectedly run into your ex. Keep in mind that you have to play it cool. Don’t make a big deal out of it. Turn it into a positive thing for you by engaging him in a light chitchat and show him that you’ve actually been doing quite well since the breakup. As mentioned earlier, this will make him rethink his decision to let someone so awesome slip away.
